The Colorful Portraits and Turkish Literary Series, published by Doğan Kardeş Publishing, features colorful portraits, short biographies and the names of the most important works of our most famous writers and poets, who have left unforgettable works in Turkish literature. I commemorate him with respect, love and gratitude on the 68th anniversary of his death by sharing the portrait of Sait Faik Abasıyanık, the most important symbol of Modern Turkish Storytelling and Burgazada, which is in my archive from this series.
SAİT FAİK ABASIYANIK
1907 1954
He was born in Adapazarı. He was the son of Faik Bey from the gentry. After completing his primary education in his hometown, he studied at Istanbul High School and graduated from Bursa High School. He went to France and studied in Grenoble for three years. When he returned to his country, he dealt with trade for a short time and worked as a journalist. He wrote stories in literary magazines and published them in book form. He died on 11 May 1954 of cirrhosis.
He is the greatest storyteller of the new generation. He knew how to combine the rawest reality with the purest poetry in his stories. In his stories about the Marmara and the fishermen, a kind of pantheism is felt, which digests the nature and human spirit. His style is simple and clear, his descriptions are strong and his types are lively.
